thought: tour

Jul 27, 2010 Piano's New York New York US

Here's how it went down...
First of all, NICKCASEY blew me away. Duo guitars/voices singing good songs, and playing good guitars. Wow! And they dressed to impress. I was impressed.

Setlist:
The Wagon
The Reminder
Etchka
Nobody
Hardest Thing
1001,100U
*Vicar in a Tutu
**New Pony
**Love Bizarre

*Guitars w/NICKCASEY - MiWi on vox
**w/ MiWi on Drums

During the set break before the collaborative set, Conor got busted outside and hauled to Jail-o. MiWi stepped in and played drums for the last two songs, and sang while playing on Love Bizarre.
That's a good Outlaw story. It's ours forever.

Jul 18, 2010 Bembe Brooklyn New York US

MiWi and the You-know-What's Debut!
Awesome!
I had so much fun on this. I wore my cowboy boots... Amy, Grey, PJ, and Conor killed it!

I had fun singing some of my favorite songs - Bring me home - Sade, Vultures - John Mayer, Family - Rob Jost, Don't Think Twice - Dylan, along with some Thought songs.
DJ Jesse Mann is amazing! He's been doing "Body Music" at Bembe for 5 years! And he stayed till the end of the night with me to get us paid. Sunday nights at Bembe are golden!
Hopefully more from MiWi and the You-know-what's! in the future!

Great Show! There's a first time for everything... Debut of Thought t-shirts! Really warm feeling on-stage from the audience. The applause felt like a bowl of hot soup on a cold day. We hope to be back here and have a more prime time slot, but we feel good about this "starting somewhere" point.

On another note. Crash Mansion's crowd on Halloween = Meh.

Oct 2, 2008 Glasslands Brooklyn NY

This show was so much fun!
We met some great artists and people were gettin Down to the sound!
Char Johnson, Check her out! She blew me away personally.
We played 5 songs and they felt like gold. Thanks to the Glasslands for having us.
It also felt really great to do something for the Democratic Party- namely, the OBAMA/ BIDEN Campaign. I don't know how much money was raised, but it sure felt good.
Great talent, great Space, and good people. Perfect!
We drank a lil wine to. Imagine that!

Sep 26, 2008 Nietzche's Buffalo NY

It'd been too long since we last played here. W/ Conor on the drums (an original Pirit of Allentown), we felt loose. Good Loose.
Conor stepped in for J-Rod and smashed it. He sounded so good! Buffalo Folk!
I was very sick for this show... : (
SO, i took dayquil, advil, and had three vodka soda's. That'll do the trick.
The music felt great for about 78 minutes. The crowd was Beautiful. Just Beautiful! Thank you Buffalo! Thank you Lazlo Hollyfeld for having us. Without paid promotion, there were over 200 people in attendance. That's the spirit!
Wooden Stage = Yes!
We'll be back, B-Lo. Don't Wurry!
Love Love Love

Sep 20, 2008 Bitter End New York NY
Aug 10, 2008 North Fork Music Park Warsaw NY
Aug 8, 2008 Rose Live Music Brooklyn NY

Back to Rose! Thanks Baywa and DJ Jessie Mann for having us. J Mann was Hot. Baywa was Hot!
Our set felt really really good. Something about Rose feels like home, right Jen? The vibe, the lights, the wallpaper. Again, the dancefloor was steamy which naturally makes the band steamy. I don't think I could ever take for granted the people who come and pour their hearts out on the dance floor to our music. It's so inspiring. Sharing in the universal groove! It's an honor to be the band playing original music for a dancing crowd. They become much more than an audience! It's a little community of moving souls trapped by the beat. Keep Going! I used to write weird music (Maybe i still do) and our sets would go from Country to Hard Rock, back to country, to Bill Withers... ... ... now, when I sit down to write, I think about the dance floor. I think about Rose and beyond. Thank you, Rose! Thank you Dancers!
A Special version of Ole' Man Brown was played for Ms. Jen Page (with "Fireworks" at the end!)

P.S. I love when I get done playing and singing, and I'm all sweaty - I go to give someone a hug, and THEY"RE AS SWEATY AS ME FROM DANCING!!! YES!!
That's what this is for!

Jul 30, 2008 NUBLU New York NY

Nublu. Nublu. Nublu. Thanks to all the lovely ladies who came out to dance! Besides the set up being kind of unconventional, and the projector light shining in the Gangsta's eyes, it was a really great set I thought.
Nublu also saw the World Premier (just love saying that) of new songs Odessa, Train (pronounced in as best a Russian accent as you can), and Rock and Roll. It's always an exciting show when new music in performed. I think the people really liked it. They Danced!
For me it's hard to play at Nublu with Thought. I get so antsy before the show. Probably because I play with two other bands there more regularly; Mocean Worker and Nublu Orchestra. So, when Thought plays there, I get the feeling that, "Oh, this is Mike's band. Let's see what their all about." But, by the second half of the set, the amazing ladies had the dark dancefloor Hot! That makes me relax and really have some fun. Afterall, that IS what Thought is all about; Music for your ears eyes and feet! Thanks, NUBLU!

P.S. Special dedication to Sherry "Shevsky" on Don't Wait Up. That's her favorite song!

May 20, 2008 KENNY'S CASTAWAYS NEW YORK NY United States
May 8, 2008 SPIKE HILL Brooklyn NY
Apr 29, 2008 Nublu NYC NY

Thank you NUBLU for welcoming Thought into your home of music, creativity, libations, and great vibes.
Personally, this is one of the clubs Nem and I had our eyes on for three years since we'd moved here from Buffalo. As you may or may not know, one of our favorite bands came out of this club/scene; Brazilian Girls. Also, Forro in the Dark, Nublu Orchestra, and Wax Poetic made this club their home. I'd been fortunate to perform here many times before Thought hit the stage with Mocean Worker, and Nublu Orchestra, but singing and playing with Thought there really meant alot to me. We've been evolving together for 8 years!!! To share this music and vibe with my Turkish friends Ilhan, Pinar, and the rest of the staff, Nublu regulars (JUNI BOOTH), and our friends/fans was really exciting for me.

Thank you for coming out on a Tuesday night and helping us Rock Nublu before the great Shitty Shitty Jam Band featuring some NYC all-stars, and bad asses Clark Gayton, Michael Leonhart, Avi Bortnik, Sean Pelton, and Kengii. Killer music all. Thank you again!
See you soon.

Big Crowd - Little Room.
We're Thought and we're Fuckin' Famous! Thank you Rona for selling cd's, and to people who signed up on the mailing list! LOVE...
yes, we are okay...
To all sound engineers mixing a band you've never seen... if after the line-check is completed, don't say anything. Don't breathe, don't talk, just wait patiently for the band to begin their show... IN other words, shut the fuck up. But, thanks, Lady. We had a great time on stage because the JBL speaker monitors were pumpin... $20,000 console, $500 monitors... what's wrong with this picture... We were waiting for Tim to start a loop to begin our first songo of the set when the soundlady asks us (perturbed) "Are you guys okay?" As if to say "normally bands start their show right away on stage, you look like amateurs, I want to go home and eat pizza and be with my three cats... I hate music but I'm a sound engineer at a big MUSIC venue in New York City..." Maybe I read into this too much... it was a loaded question... Lady, we've been a band for 8 years and played many stages both with and without the band... Some of us have been playing music for 20 years... perhaps longer than you've been a grouchy soundlady... Please keep that to yourself and let us do us.
Funny, because it's rare we get to work with female sound engineers, I was psyched! But she ruined it... And I spilled my beer on my bookbag... dang...
Much Love

Feb 23, 2008 Baggot Inn New York NY

Keith Ward Band- featuring Grey McMurray. Smokin' Hot! Jared, And Mikemike Anchoring Keith Ward like the Titanic!

SUSPICIIOUS PACKAGE tore the roof down. I know there is at least one video of that show somewhere, and I won't mention any names... ... Thank you S.P. for bringin the party and getting it started!

With tough acts to follow, the energy in the room was amazing! New faces, old faces, amazing musicians in the audience, and amazing musicians joining us on stage... ... set list went like this: song song song, talk a little, plug the website, song song song, do the email list, song, bootyshake, bow, hit the bar, hang with friends... Nice Setlist huh? Thanks to Matthew Downey, Sir Kevin Raczska, and Tequila Sunrise s.k.a. Kevin Moehringer for their percussion and Trombone playing! This felt really good from the start. Thank you Baggot Inn for good sound, the Best Bartenders, and a nice Party!!

Jan 18, 2008 Tea Lounge Brooklyn NY

Yet another amazing night at the Tea Lounge. The Thought Gangstas came correc! Thanks to all the Dookers who came out and danced. Also, Thanks to Albrite for being so interested in the lyrics, and inspiring me to create a book or at least a hand out with the lyrics in it for these concerts.
Thank you Michal, Tim and everyone at the Tea Lounge! See you in April!

the music felt really really good. we hadn't performed in nearly 2 months together... New songs were played, "Etchka," (a new song dedicated to Moscow, the Band Auktyon, and Russian Dancers) and Beyondo's "Go Baby." And what do you know, we closed the bar, too! Even Jared stayed for a few beers! YAY! We'll be back there soon. Toda Raba, Michal! Lehit Re'ot!

Aug 18, 2007 Rose Brooklyn NY

Conor Michael Elmes + Kevin Shadooki Shabubbleboom Raczska + Isabel Switchblade Walker = me freaking out in the corner jumping and dancing like crazy! The best version of Nobody to date -in my book.
M.V.P. goes to two people for the whole night- Nem for not dying on stage. and Conor Michael Elmes for learning the set in one week and bringing newness to the table. Great Job!
It's always ALWAYS cool to bring in a different drummer (for me). Every drummer plays something different on every song, and they make it feel like a million dollars in their own way. Having Conor in rehearsal all week totally freed my mind. I felt a freedom that I guess I haven't felt before. A freedom that comes with responsibility. An Anchor, a groove, a dynamic. From this bedrock comes a deep exploration of subtlety, rhythm and melody. I enjoyed every second of it. Best of all, in this performance, I was totally sober, yet I felt higher than ever, more free, and more creative... ??? sweet! Thanks Conor. Thanks Isabel! Thanks Kevin!

Mocean Worker had a great set too! This was a super fun night for me especially with doing double duty for both bands. Funky funky! Like Pizza pizza... Lil' ceaser's anybody??? Thanks Mocean Worker for Rockin the Rose!!!
Peace and love!

Aug 2, 2007 Lion's Den New York NY
Jul 11, 2007 Crash Mansion New York NY

Nim & Nem played its NYC debut. THis definitely won't be the last time you see and hear Nim&Nem. It was quite refreshing to be on a big stage with no pressure, no vibe, no shtick, no nervousness, just two dudes and their instruments. I had Bill give me a ton of reverb. THAT was cool. Nem played his Baritone Guitar and used the Line 6, his Boss delay pedal and the Metal Zone very effectively as we played through some songs of ours, and some improvisations. the set went something like this:
Improvisation on Firewalk Lake theme, Nobody, Mark Freeland song (title?), Sleepless, Nem's tribute to Ali Farka Toure, Circle Song # 7 (Bobby McFerrin).
we'll be doing this more and more. I'd love to add my own loop station, and a snare drum on which I'll play with brushes. Then we can tour hopefully. And maybe we'll play "Just the Two of US." I'm happy to join the ranks of L.I.P.S., it's not you, it's me., The Duo, Frisell and Greg Lietz and all the duos ever... And, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to Matty and Kai, Lazer and Page, and Kimmy for coming and supporting us.

This really is a beautiful club. as Tim and I crossed Bowery from Spring St. we said, "with a name like Crash Mansion, it's so L.A. SOooo L.A." and it was. But, it is a beautiful club. ANd the people there were nice too.

Jun 30, 2007 Mt. Morris Buffalo

Whoops. I accidentally ate the mushrooms... that's why my pants fell down awaiting the Pants Smuggler to join us...
Earlier this day I had a blast enjoying the sun with Mom, and drinking and eating. Hylofi played. that was fun. I felt like I was playing really strong/loud. He likes that. great set with Jared on drums, too. Later, I sat in with Crittenden and the amazing Jerry Livingston on the Eeeeeeliectric Bass (MY Goodness!). That was Funky, my friends. Fonky.

back to those chewables I mentioned earlier... Lazlo and Rhubarb sounded Grrrrreat as always! I lost my voice. I enjoyed the sound I was getting while singing with a really raspy voice. I wish I could sing like that all the time. I'll try. I think the set was good. have to listen to the recording if there is one.
after the show, we sat by the fire until I found a hoola-hoop. I started hoola-hooping with my new friend Theresa. We didn't stop until the morning... ... good thing Santas little helper was there... ...

Jun 29, 2007 Mt. Morris Buffalo NY

JAck Topht esq. started the live music off. chAMAZING! I can't think of a better way to start the 6th annual RFP. He's my favorite.
what an amazing new location in Mt. Morris. cornfields, rolling hills in the distance, great forest and a Big Blue tent for all the great music. Rhubarb dun done it again!

Jun 28, 2007 Electric Co. Utica NY

Yeah Man! First set was Awesome! The crowd was drunk and ready for Freddy! Dancin' shoutin. I can't remember the set list, but that's okay. we probably played some Thought songs.
We met some real nice people during the set break and PJ whipped me in Bubble Hockey. The second set was different than the first. People were stumbling out the door on their way home after a long eveing drinking. So, I kinda freaked out a little. hey, it was a full moon, and I needed to let some energy go. So, "Hi Bill" was secretly dedicated to Bad Brains!!! Thanks Zee! beware the Turning Stone... ... ... ...

Jun 22, 2007 Baggot Inn New york NY

no comment on the clubs strict time-frame... 11pm= 12:30am.
Comments on the Love. The Love, the Thumbs, the Ones. Laughing laughing fall apart. Neep Neeeeeeeep! Some crew was in the House with All the love a man or woman could need. That's all there is to it.
Peace.

Jun 14, 2007 Tea Lounge Brooklyn NY

Two words: Ike Sturm. Three words: Woy Wakadoo Soy. Three More Words: Electric Bass Guitar. One Word: Tlrainer. One more word: Vibrato. Two words: Blown Speaker.
One Place: Tea Lounge, Park Slope. One Man: Oren. Two plates: House mixed salad, personal quiche. Four beers: Brooklyn Lager, Brooklyn Lager, Brooklyn Lager, Brooklyn Lager.

a few words about the music: IN PJ's absense, I spent the few days home from Burlington, VT writing out alot of our music for Bass for Ike to read. IT had been a while since I put pencil to manuscript paper... This was actually fun, and I knew Ike would "Kill" this stuff like he had once before when we played on Staten Island two Halloween's ago(the band was Toni Attardo, Jared, Ike, Nem, Myself). Of course he can read this stuff down (you should try reading HIS music...) Not only would he read this stuff down, but he would transform the band with bringing his natural, exploratory ways to music. PJ was in "Rehab" in Arizona, and he wished that we could record this concert to hear what Wike Sturm brings to the music.
Some things that normally happen I opted out of writing for Ike (97% knowing Ike would come up with something different and sweet. 3% being lazy... maybe more). you know, what can I say, Ike is great and brings so much music to the table in whatever group he plays. I'm fortunate to play in his band the Ike Sturm Ensemble. check out his website Ike Sturm

Jun 4, 2007 Elbo Room San Francisco CA

I can still smell the Funk!
First let me tell you about the BBQ at Ketry's place the night before... Fuckin' Right, Jack! GOod Food, people Dancin, Great Beer, and a sweet Vibe. You know! the sunglasses were on. Joe Bagale did a wonderful job playing with us in Jared's absence! He definitely licked his Thumbs on the Drums!

Now, The ELbo room is a sweet club in the Mission District S.F. It was PBR night which is always a good thing, right? Fuckin' Right, Jack. There was a great crowd and it was a Monday! The set went really well, and the Good people were in tune with the sounds we shared. and some people danced (Bonus!). Joe absolutely destroyed our song "Tomorrow!" He sounded so good. I wish there was a recording...

The Dirty Workshop was Too Funky not to Dance. Joe Bagale is a grown ass man, dog. They covered some Prince and we watched and listened while Joe switched from Drums/Vox to Guitar/Vox. The band sounded so good. Most of these bad-asses are a part of the S.F. Jazz Mafia and they sound soooo good! The last song of the night was a Sly tune called "Take you Higher." Joe called me up to play some solo, then, he set me up for a dual with a bad-assed Tpt player named Mike Almos. That dude can Pump! That was the first time ever I think I've been apart of something like that. WE traded ideas back and forth, and let me tell you, the energy was through the ceiling! I was a bit nervous, but Tweedy was hittin the drums so hard that all you could do is play higher, faster and more aggressive. What a night of music and energy! Love to the good people of S.F.! we'll be back!

Jun 2, 2007 The Edinburgh Castle San Francisco CA usa

"Drivin that train, high on cocaine. Casey Jones you'd better watch your speed!..."
Well, we weren't high on Cocaine, but after a 5+ hour drive from L.A. we pulled up to the Edinburgh Castle. (I played a concert at the Hippodrome Theater with Jaime Moore and Joe Bagale shortly before. We did John Zorn' s Cobra which was super cool!) I ate Fish and Chips shortly after we sorted out the lack of drums situation at the Club. Muso (from L.A.) kindly let Jared use their drumset!... for a fee of $20. that was kinda wack, Jack. But, Ayal at the door was real cool and I got to practice some hebrew with him.
The show was short but sweet. WE opened with "Blangadingydingydingy" and played Politics for kids and some other tunes I can't remember. Then Jared left for NYC... Joe Bagale and I stuck around to hear a great band called "It's a Secret to Everybody." Two Japanese girls playing keys and singing, and a dude playing electric bass, PLUS a computerized beat-maker and Emcee. Que Linda! Joe and I decided that these guys were not going to be a secret to everybody for long, and that we might be seeing them all over Williamsburg BK before long...
Thanks AYAL, It's a Secret to Everybody, Muso, Edinburgh Castle, and the good people of San Francisco!

Jun 1, 2007 the dooker palace west Pasedena CA

Pasadena- Home of the Rose Bowl... Buffalonians and USC fans know about this place. THought was prepared for the worst... HOwever. THis was a SUPER-DOOKER BOWL!!! AND WE ALL WIN!! YAY! Everything was Dooker. from the Dooker art+ space, the Dooker Jungle Juice, the Dooker Fish Tanks, and of Course the Dookers! ALl of them, and DAncing!! YAY. This made L.A. worth the Trip. What a Dooker Party Jump off. We played two long sets for the Dookers. The Queen Dooker is LAzer's Mom. AND the first group "Side ta Side, L.A." went down here. Hands up, and wave em side ta side, can you do that for me L.A.? Page told me later that she was telling her Dooker friend that she'd better wave her hands side ta side... HAHA. I hope L.A. people enjoy the cd you bought. So many wonderful people. Dookertella, and many more. THought Lynn was sick, she was the M.V.P. of this night. AND we debuted a new song for the DOokers. "New Afrobeat, Old Afrobeat."

One more thing... ... ... Side ta Side l.a. ... ... Side ta Side.

May 31, 2007 On the Rox Hollywood CA

This was a cute club atop the Roxy THeater. The Blue neon bar was really attractive. I felt pretty ironic singing songs with the word Dance in it. This was what they were talking about when people told me L.A> was too cool to dance. some toe-tapping, some head-bobbing... but that's all. Singing Nobody, "Dance Dance Dance! Oh won't you dance with me?" I heard a silent collective response; "No. sorry, but no." Fine. I guess. The crowd was into the music though, they just showed their appreciation in other ways.
Pero Ay Dios Mio, la musica de ISA y Que Linda! Yes, ISABEL, or ISA for short. She played duo with a man named... NOt only was she beautiful AND beautiful, but her voice and her songs were dark, and passionate. I swung around the strip pole for her one time making Lazer laugh and almost pee her pants a little. ISA sent a shout out to Thought which was nice, too. I've been in touch with her since and I explained that I wish artists like her, and all of us didn't have to work the other jobs (she's a waitress- imagine how many people she serves who have no idea... but maybe some happen to catch a glimpse when they look into her eyes as she delivers their food...). I invited her to the Dooker Party West the next night, but she had to work. I said to her, "Espero que podemos ser amigos..."

yeah. sooooo that gig was fun... OH YEAH and we saw a few accidents on Sunset BLVD near UCLA. one of them was a Mercedes Benze and a Ferrari. who wins that one? Thanks to Megan Jacobs and everyone at ON the Rox for being nice.

May 29, 2007 Temple Bar Santa Monica CA

THis club looks and feels amazing! We had a pretty good sound experience on-stage... I'd say 2.5 stars... IT was exciting ti be bringing this music to Los Angeles People. Some people danced and some old friends from College and Beyond came out to hear us. That was nice. Also, great to be with Page and Lazer on the West Side. The music was pretty good too! I can't remember what happened, but I do know that we started with a new song called "Blangadingydingydingy" (banghra style). I'd heard that people in L.A. are just too cool to dance... this was mostly true here, but some heads were bobbin... that's cool- I guess. more on that later... THe band before us was called ON the One. I like that name for a band. I like to live my life on the One. One Beat. Make it Funky. That they did. The band collectively had mixed feelings on this band though. Hey, you can never please everybody... I appreciated their funk though. Defimally.
Temple Bar as a whole gets 4 stars count em * * * *

May 28, 2007
May 19, 2007 Baggot Inn New York NY

This concert was especially fun for me and us because it was our NYC cd release party and many of our friends were there. AND the Dookers were Dancing! That always makes me happy, (see the seizure notes from L.A. too.)
WE tried something new tonight by attempting to make a few strings of songs without stopping. THis worked pretty well. I think we did the Reggaetone jam into Dogs and Diamonds into HAnging Sneakers. And we also played People get Busy intoDraculas Night out into 1001. That was pretty fun and apparently it came off well to the crowd. I love the sound guy, Amos.

May 13, 2007 Hannah Flannagan's Asheville NC

Thanks to Amy Lovinger for bringing us a huge Bass Speaker for our Vocals! ... Thanks to Mark Sternal for having us at Hannah's and all the super nice people for listening and responding with nothing but Positivity. We'll be back. Oh YEah. We'll be back. Sorry we had to split right away...
I don't remember the set list off the top of my head, but, we did play When We Were Chidren, Use Me, Politics >>Tomorrow, OMB, and Sleepless to name a few. I'll find the paper with the set on it and update this. What a Beautiful Day to be playing outdoors under the Sun, Sonnnn!
So Much Love! Crossing the French Broad river...

May 11, 2007 Oasis Charleston SC

(ysssss). What a Beach! "PJ, your pickels are ready. PJ come get your Pickels." After a 12 hour drive South to Charleston, Brooklyn Landed. Oasis is a big joint where you can smoke. At all times there was somethin' smokin in Oasis. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DJ LINZ! Her peeps were out. BJ and Bear were out. She set 'em up and we knocked 'em down. Me thinks Charleston will be getting a visit from thought in the near future. Evryone was so nice, and we got to work on our Drawls...
The set list went something like this: Dogs and Diamonds- #2- Nothing New under the Sun- 1001-100U- The Hardest Thing- Politics-Nobody- People Get Busy- Ol' Man Brown.
Charleston, South Carolina, WE love you! WE'll see you soon.

May 1, 2007 Zebulon Brooklyn NY

saaWEEEEET! From Baggot Inn to Zebulon is like... ... Safety to Touchdown. Gosh we love this place. Es Kernte Nicht Besser Zein. FULL MOON, RAIN/THUNDER/LIGHTENING STORM. Wolves came out. Dookers came out.
Thought started with a new live composition called, "Frame for Silence and then Vibration" or something. I had just watched Free Willy the night before... remember when Willy chokes at his first performance? Well, we weren't choking, the silence became intoxicating. I'm really into the idea of the frame. The pre-ceremony/vibration mental preparation. Giving thanks for space, vibration, and community. We'd never done this before. It was pretty spur of the moment. But the lights were low, the moon was full, we hadn't played at Zebulon for over a year, and there was energy in the room like no other. This is Zebulon; to me. to us. The music went well. I haven't listened to the recording yet, but It felt really good on stage. Good volumes. The new version of the Hardest THing is super silky. Have you heard this new jem by Nem?

I think the set went like this:
Hanging Sneakers
Nothing New Under the Sun
1001, 100U
Nobody (for Josh Sitron)
the Hardest Thing
Sleepless
Dogs and Diamonds
People Get Busy
Pipedreams

Also, sorry for the late notice, but this concert was broadcast live too through Zebulon's Website.

Apr 28, 2007 Baggot Inn New York NY

well, where to start; business or art. that rhymes. in this world, most people start at the business, so you know what that means in regards to this blog: I'll start with art.
Thought got pushed back to after midnight in favor of a cover band called, ummm "Lazy" or something. I don't think they went by that, but that's a word that comes to mind when I think of an exclusively cover material performance group. Hey, call me a punk. Throw the covers over our eyes and the audience too. I love that song.
anyways, there was an Elvis Imposter pub crawl that ended at Baggot Inn so we were asked to yield to their huge crowd and rowdiness. No Problem. THe place was packed to the edges, and some people smoked a joint right in the back corner. Cool, huh. this night couldn't be that bad.
WE waited for the songs to finsish on the Live Jukebox, and played to a very very nice crowd of friends and quite a few newcomers. THat's always a treat. The set went really well. We were supposed to play two sets, but instead we did one long one cuz it was getting late. Amos is the new sound guy over there and he's good, and very supportive.
My question to clubs, the people of the world, artists, is; Would you want to play at a place that wants to push an original band back to yield to a cover band? Would you feel that the integrity of the club would lesson. NYC has long been a hot-bed of creativity. Should Thought want to be associated with this club? I'm not sure. I'm sorting through my feelings still on this. Business (lots of beer sales and a packed bar on saturday night to feature Elvis Impersonators and band impersonators?) or Art (original music, not a packed bar... fun, good band perhaps with creative integrity)? I'd like to say that I'd side with Art. BUt, I know the power of the Mighty dollar. Long live the dollar bill. Who knows. Music is fun.

Mar 17, 2007 Galapagos Art Space Brooklyn NY
Mar 2, 2007 Rose Brooklyn NY

A great way to end our residency at Rose- Sky Slope Launch Party, Little Grey Girlfriend, Beyondo, and a late set by yours truly and a late late set by a new band called "Mama's in the Kitchen" featuring PJB on Space Trumpet, EB on finger drums and twumpet, narration by Meeshi Weeshi, Piano by Timothy Allen, and Talking by the small, highly intoxicated audiece (including Mama HWilliams in technicolor).

the music started much later than planned as LLG waited for a bigger crowd to come in. I've enjoyed hearing their songs for six months now, and they never cease to amaze me with their great delivery, excellent harmonies, and song structures. And, HER VOICE! - Beyondo started shortly Eric and I did an interview with Kim Ging (Sky Slope Music) in front of the club. - the interview was fun, and slightly uncomfortable. Eric and I could talk for days about many things, but knowing that we should make our answers concise about this music we love so much brings out the weird in both of us... Especially without a drink in hand... look for that interview on Youtube soon.-- So Beyondo started around 11:15 or so with a song from his second Album "Invisible Love" featuring Martha Cluver. This is the second time we've ever played this song live, and it is an interesting way to capture the audience. The rest of the set introduced a few other newer songs from his recent albums. This band is so patient and subtle. It's so very relaxing and rewarding to be a part of this performance. You can always count on 20% of the set to be Eric telling Jokes and going off on tangents about whatever- this next song is called... and the song after that is called... and the song after that is called... You just had to be there. From what I've heard, the sound in the house was pretty clear, which is good news for the audience. This music is very rich and like I said, very subtle and sometimes dense. Beyondo, a name you can trust.

I was feeling antsy right after I finished with Beyondo. It was getting late, and I didn't want to have people leave before Thought started. I was hoping for a NYC change-over, but it didn't happen that way. It took a good 20 minutes to get playing. I decided to go to the bathroom and try and chill a bit before starting. Just relax, Mike... The people didn't leave, but instead, Lynn encouraged everyone to get off their butts and get ready to dance. They did. How can you say no to LLcool L? Dogs and Diamonds started with a long intro. I asked the band to really strive for definition and conviction with everything we played- to really draw the audience into our sound with dynamics, and surprise. Most importantly, let's make these people dance!-- We played When We Were Children next for the First time in what seems like two years. This went really great for not having performed it in so long. Overall, I felt the music had an edge that it's never had to date. I felt like I couldn't relax until we delivered a stellar "thank you Rose" set. I think that's what you have to do as a performer. You must give the impression that you're totally relaxed while staying so focused and on point that you deliver a great performance. Or, maybe not. Sometimes when I'm a little tipsy on stage, I feel loose, and I let loose, and it goes the same... I guess it depends on the mood.

Well, thank you to everyone at Rose. It's been a fun run, and we hope to do it again soon. And thankyou to everyone who came out over the 6 months to dance and flirt. You're lovely. Peace out!

Feb 24, 2007 Baggot Inn New York NY

This was a really fun night to perform. The Baggot Inn is a comfortable room for this music. Although there are chairs and tables (we'd prefer "festival" seating) we do okay getting the audience to participate in heating up the room with body heat by wiggling their bodies along with us.

A few songs went especially well. So well that the band was all smiles after we played it. We played Pipedreams for the first time in oh I don't know how long. It... was... AWESOME!!! So much energy in that song and the transitions into the recap, and Punk sections were seemless and crisp.--- Also, Nobody got to some interesting places as we played it with a quiet intensity unknown to the song before. I was pleased with the outcome. I remember trying to use sprechtema and get really vibey with the intro. The effect in my head was similar to Bjork or some form of art song/poetrymusic... whatever that is. I-wan...to-be. CCC-los-er, to your.... Mind- aaaaand Cen-Ter. Oh won't you caaa-rrrry. Me.

and Speaking of Wiggling. We were all treated to a great Blues band after our set. The back-up singers really grabbed my attention. They sounded so good, and were even featured on a few songs. One of them is named Cassondra, and she can really wiggle her voice. I asked her if she would give me a lesson on how to wiggle my voice like she does. She said she would. I'll keep you posted on my progress. Or, maybe you'll hear come out in our music... tha band was called Frank Sellman and the Love Rockit.

I think we're going to start a residency over there. Would anyone be opposed to Thought at the Baggot Inn one Saturday a month?

Jan 19, 2007 Baggot Inn New York NY

What a night! What fun. This was the first time both Lizzle and Maria played together with the band. Lizzle surprised us showed up late Thursday evening to the treehouse with DJ Linz. What a surprise. We proceeded to get crunked... then we listened to the recording from the 5th Rose concert. I was happy to hear her get excited about the music we made that night.

Leave it to our ladies to bring their ladies to a show. You know what happens when a bunch of pretty ladies are both on stage, and in the audience at a place that serves alcohol? ... "that means, we can do shhhomethin'" It means it's a Friggin Parrrty. And, do you know who really likes to party? Yes. that's correct: Thought!

The music went well. I gotta say, the MVP of the night has to go to Timmy. Despite getting some heat from some people in our circle after buying a new guitar with a different tuning (Baritone Guitar is tuned A,D,G,C,E,A), Tim didn't miss ONE FREAKIN NOTE! So we let him Rage on his new axe for the Encore, Hi Bill. Crush! I did Ten Push ups during his solo. DOn't worry, next time there will be more!
It's always nice to bring this music to new listeners and dancers. Dance Dance Dance!!! Peace ya'll. This is La Lupa ^^ howl if ya hear me.

Jan 5, 2007 Rose Brooklyn NY

Happy New Year!!
First let me say that it is nice to have a little personal show journal. I'm the only one who writes in this little box. I'm glad I can look back on what I was feeling for different concerts.

Second I'd like to write, how delighted I was to see some good ole friends from the Eastman. And from the Left Coast. Also in the audience tonight was a "taper" whose name I just learned is Dale. Hi Dale! Thanks for recording the band.

Last, I'd like to approach talking about this nights set in retrospect. After listening to the recording from Carlo at Rose (thanks Carlo!)
This band can play loud, but can be very dynamic. This band plays fast, but will slow it down from time to time. This band plays busy, but can be very mellow. I know a live show is full of unexpected energy, and anticipation. Tempo-wise, we're finding our way to the pockets of certain songs. You know, the sweet spot. Usually, at the end of the night, we think, "well this and that could've gone a different way (maybe better or something like that), but whatever, the energy was there. And, hey, if it's true, it can't be false.

that said, come hear the band again. we'll do something different.

and one more thing. Is $5 too much to ask from people for an environment with two talented original bands, a shiny dj, and a cozy, sexy bar in NYC? I was told that since there was a cover about 20 people did not come into the club. maybe live music should be free. and alcohol could cost twice as to compensate the musicians. I've not gone into places due to covers in the past. That's probably because I'm usually quite poor. So, one must ask the question; is a question of poverty, or being cheap? It's New York City, People. Five bucks to enter a stylish room, off the beaten path with all this entertainment is like asking a bum for a penny. I've done it. They usually say yes. Try it sometime. The other way us musicians try and make a few dollars is by collecting donations, or, T.i.p.s. this doesn't always work well. I think that if the music is making you feel as good as one drink (and you have the money) put the cost of a drink in the tip bucket. If this was a universal law, you might find less bands playing in spaces that serve PBR and the like. (I personally am delighted to know that a bar I walk into serves PRB.)
... ... my point is, i guess I have no point. I've already revealed to you that I'm greedy, cheap, poor, and thirsty. What else can I say, but, SUpport live music (feel the human vibrations!!), and Gooo sabres. I got quarters, so I got beer. God Bless the United States of the World! And Peace in the Middle East.

When life hands you a Lemon...

Thought loves Bootyjuice. We all made some new friends and we had a nice dance party. Bootyjuice sounds so Good!
Jared wanted to play contiguously through the whole set, and it worked great! ... for two songs. Nothing New Under the Sun > Dogs and Diamonds. Hehehe. Nice. All in all, it was a great 2-4-Tuesdaze hang. Mr. Higshogsmugsbogs was in attendance with Mrs. Puddeminmamwahh.

25 years old. So lucky! so blessed! thank you for celebrating with the Wolf. Beyondo in the Hizzy. Malcom, Grey, Geoff, Erin, Josh, Eric! Sheezy, PJ, Nem, Maria, matty, Eric, ELI, Nay-nay, Little Grey Girlfriend! Carlo, Gina, Gina, and... Gina. the Zooz Girls, Doo-Doo man, Happy Birthday to Luke O'Maley too! To all the good time friends of mine, Thank You!
The Rose crowd was so dancing-like! Shaking what their mothers gave them for Christmas, and Hannuka.
We tried a new song I wrote called "Don't wait up" that went pretty well. A little Ska action. don't know where that came from but, it is what it is...
And, how about Maria, the MVP! Holdin it down!

One sad note though. On her way to my place around 7pm tonight, my dear friend Mashetchka was friggin robbed right down the street from our place. She's a tough girl and handled it very well. She had a beer, called her dear mama, and went home. It is sad that people steal. ignorance is bliss? Do they know just how much they stole? Sure, $40, a cell phone, keys etc... but perhaps the most expensive thing the criminals took but cannot spend was her feeling of security in the thought of visiting her Bushwick friends. And, poor Mashetchka (little Masha) was going to come out and party with us for the first time in a long, long time.

"Though shalt not steal."

Happy HalloQueens... Mmmmm. Chocolate. Thought goes Goth and loves it. Big Swifty is a farm. Me likes! Beyondo is: Monk, Woman, Lion, Nascar Driver, Lifeguard, ?, ?, Goth.
the Pizza's are: The Pizza's.
All the bands sounded like sugar on your tongue! Beautiful People helped us celebrate this spooky night with smiles, food, whuska, beer, music, costume, and tongue. Rock and Roll.

I don't know how I ended up breaking all the glasses on stage... Goth! I think we all really like being a Goth band. Perhaps you'll see us this way more often... The set went great. We had to start with our most Goth song Nobody, and then get the brighter dance party started with People Get Busy, 1,001-1,00You (debut!), Dracula's Night Out, Hanging Sneakers (without shirt), Dog's and Diamonds, and Politics For Kids.
Good Dance party (he likes that, he likes that)! And, what do you know? The Coen Bros. Made a strong appearance. I mean, Hubidibby Hayang-I'll put it all on you-I hope you do- Check the System! System! System!-crinklecrownedcrunk-Braindead In the HOUSE!

Yup, always, fun times when concerting on Halloween with the good-time friends of ours. And Thank you to Mat, and Rebecca at the Creek and the Cave for their generous hospitality! So much Love! So much emotion! So much pleasure!

Sep 24, 2006 Knitting Factory (Old Office) New York NY

RIpplegroove from San Diego Rocks! They now live in NYC, and boy can they play. Check them out.

Our good friends Eymarel are always so sweet to hang/ play with. They Rock, and they are the nicest people. We had a nice sittin' spell afterwards at the treehouse in Bushwick. Lee and Mary stayed the night. Mary couldn't sleep with the noise of trucks and the street in the morning, but Lee could... zzzzzzzzz The following day, I took them into the city and we ended up just chillin a little in Union Square, then Tompkin's Square park. Good talks about music, the industry, the struggles, aspirations, improvisation, and food. They'll probably be playing where you live, so check them out. Special thanks to the Knit for taking all of our money... again. (Rebecca the bartender is special though. ; )
Peace, music, and meditation. "Money is just a two cow coupon."

Sep 18, 2006 Lucky Cat Brooklyn NY

How lucky it is. Monday night musicball! Small Medium sounds sooooo good. They're probably my favorite duo. Chris was using this device that makes his voice sound like an electric Bass of sorts. And Eric was using different effect pedals on his trumpet. And then they'd groove hard!

Our turn. Masque, 2 of a kind, #2, DNO, DAD, and PGB. Nice Monday night dance party. Monday's at the Lucky Cat... Colin the sexy bartender was serving 'em up right. If you tip him well enough, he may play you a song on his Bass Saxophone.

Hmmmm what's the most perfect way to end double bill of adventurous musics??? Joe McGinty's live upright piano Karaoke. YES!! I had never done this before, but I couldn't resist. Our new friend Jenny and Eric sang "man eater". Leah and I followed them up with Billie Jean, and Like a Virgin. Spirits were soaring! and then, we all got a Total Eclipse of the Heart. It was Epic. Thanks Pam! ... people started to split around 12:30, but there was more karaoke to be sang. I had to sing a Duet with Pam who delivered the Total Eclipse with amazing passion. Primal screams... ... mating calls for people who are "a bit much." Pam and I sang Stand By Me, Psycho Killer (apparently Joe McGinty played a bunch with David Byrne in the 80's), and Girls Just Wanna Have fun... That they do, my friends. That, they do. --- Monday's at the Lucky Cat. Go and get lucky!

Sep 7, 2006 Tea Lounge Brooklyn NY

Can you say "YES!"? We are honored to be a part of the Zoozik Mooszic compilation which has its home at the Tea Lounge in Park Slope. Many thanks to Oren and Eric Biondo for having us both on the cd and for a night here.

Alot of Eastman heads used to play at Java's in Rochester. It was always very comfortable and they gave you a free cookie for playing. Tea Lounge is about three times the size of Java's AND not only did they give us some tastey food, but Beer all night long. We had a great time playing in this relaxed setting at a lower volume than we usually play at. Horns weren't mic'd, and the rhythm section turned thangs down, but the energy of the room came through in our music as usual. Also, this is the very first time we played to an audience that was speckled with Mac laptops. So, during our banter and plugs for this website, people could actually go to it right at that moment. In fact, one dude showed us his laptop with the front page on it. Pretty Cool. I hope we get to play there again soon. We love playing with little stress. No stress about how many people will come, how many drink tickets we get, shady people, set time, etc... Thank you again, Tea Lounge! You're our favorite

Sep 1, 2006 R and R New York NY

What a night of Music! Virtual Jungle (trio) started the night off and the first song I heard from the Men's room was Grace by Jeff Buckley. Very Powerful. Interesting trio too. The lead singer/ guitar player (silver Parker Fly) is Brazilian and the Electric Bass player (Warwick 5 string) is Bulgarian. I didn't get to meet the drummer who is quite good too! They sound really good together, and they set the level high for the rest of the night.

next was the Josh Dion Band. These guys are really fun and very talented. This is easy to tell just by their eager crowd waiting to hear them. The drummer, Josh Dion is also their lead singer! He does this really well. And the rest of the band rocks too as they play some good feeling music ala The Band or something like that. Very soulful. Great set!

Last but not least, we took the already hott stage and decided to start the set off in Punk fashion with "Nobody." The sets before us were pretty uplifting and joyful, so at least I was feeling like it'd be nice to mix things up and start off like punks. That's what we are for the most part. At least in my head. The set was good and loud and people were dancing. People who've never heard this band before. That's encouraging. No free cookies though. However, if you're in a band that plays there, you get one free drink each. And if I were you, I would order the house Merlot. They pour Texas-sized portions of that. Thanks to Virtual Jungle and Josh Dion Band for Rockin! And thanks to R and R.

Aug 19, 2006 Electric Co. Utica NY

It was a warm, cloudy afternoon as four boys left the clutches of Mother Brooklyn. Sadly leaving behind one of their brothers, they took their seperate ways getting out of New york City's streets and highways. The Wild Game ran in site on the Pallisades Parkway and the hills gradually increased in altitude. With the green rolling mountains came increasingly dark, ominous storm clouds. There was an eerie climate surrounding this particular concert. Utica sleepily awaited the arrival of a new band as the rain poured down to clean the streets and camouflage the street signs.

Melodic fragments of Frisell's Ghost Town littered the damp air. As three seperate cars pulled up in a staggered fashion. If only time could be rewound to the year 1894. The lone bartender man smiled and welcomed the band with a curved Yankees cap, and the handsome soundman set up the large, slightly elevated stage. Many a band had played inside these walls, and many a new friend made with the aid of bourbon and Utica Club beer.

One by one, and two by two the locals walked through either entrance making the slightly uncomfortable band feel a little less embaraced as showtime drew closer. The band used their individual remedies to get loose and relax. A couple of boys played a broken game of Bubble Hockey, as others saught Pizza nearby. Still, others tasted the towns beer, as the two by twos straggled in. Utica people are real nice. They greet you with a shy smile as if to say, "oh. I've never seen you in here before. you must be the band. I hope you're good. I'll be at the bar, and if i like you, me and my wife my shake our tush's and end up do the right thing later on at home. So, you make sure and play real nice." The band always appreciates that attitude.

The show began at 10:16pm thanks to the bands new buddy Mr. P. Mr. P happily supplied the band with a Marshall guitar amplifier in exchange for free admission and some of the band beer. As the natives once said, "Good. Trade." The show began with a song called Sleepless that seemed to exemplify the mood of the night; kind of southern, kind of moody, yet determined. The band was ready to play! They came here to make a difference, and it was apparent from the start. The vibe was loose, yet focused as some old repetoire was revisited with passion and renewed creativity. This would go on to be a concert that set the band on fire. It would electrify their confidence in each other, in the music, and in the people of an audience. They would leave to drive through the night in a severe lightening/ rainstorm with 15 dollars in each of their pockets and new friends on their minds. When they will return they do not know. Only time will tell. But when they do.... ... a cat knows when to clean himself. A dog knows when to sleep. A bird knows when to fly. A band knows when to rock.

Aug 11, 2006 East End Fest Rochester NY

THe Sun was shining at 6pm. The air was cool. Lynn and PJ were wearing Sunglasses. JD was flirting with my Mom. the Givetar was well tuned. the audience was young and old! There was a middle-aged man wearing a Mets T-Shirt. Jared was playing on his new drums. Sean was a caring sound man. there was beer everywhere. we made some money and got free beer. CHRIS WICKS! Rebirth Brass Band was playing down the street after us. B-Lo was in the house. La Calle! ppp sss k p pppsss k. Jim from Salingers is a good guy. Mike from Milestones is a good guy! Rochester is a good town. Journey is a good band!

Aug 10, 2006 Spoken Word Cafe Brooklyn (pk.slope) NY usa

Maria Maria Maria! Kevin Kevin Kevin! This gig felt really good. Maria Eiszen was all dressed up in a pretty dress with high heels when we walked in... She was also whailing on the Bari Sax playing duo with a drummer because the opening solo act couldn't make it.
What a gal. Then, she was gonna sit in on Politics for kids with us at the end of the set when she heard what we're playing first, Hanging Sneakers. She says, oh! I know that song. It's my favorite song on your cd. Then Play Maria! It was a great jam we've never got into before at the end of the song. and she played tamborine.
Then she sang Two of a Kind! MVP for the night!
What was also cool was playing Politics for Kids while Victor and Amayo from Antibalas listened. Cool! Afrobeat!
I hope this benefit helped, but Chief Dayo had some inspiring words for the people their as he expressed his gratitude.
Oh ya, Maria played the last set with her other band the Ideas too. She can dance too!
Peace, and hair grease
